Overview:
Acrylic Paint & Plaster on Canvas.
Size: 80cm x 100cm.
Description:
‘The work is inspired by various artists: Dylan Lewis, Tania Welz, Marjorie Tomchuck.
The inspiration helped me delve deeper into my vulnerable hidden side. The side kept safe within myself. Which explains why in the original draft the black was going to be a nude-beige color, signifying an idle state. Because it meant displaying a safer more pleasant side to the viewer. Because what if black and maroon are too dark? What if they run away?
As the bright pinks and purples ran down, I found myself having to darken the beige and nudes more and more. It gave more of a feeling.
It depicted a sincerity that said: You don’t need to like this nor sympathize. Because it is what it is.
It is an emotional piece, representing pain, hurt, deception, defeat, triumph, faith, bonds, courage, and humility.
The black signifies depression, anxiety, ptsd, and fears.
The dark blue below represents the support received from others, when you allow yourself to ask for help.
The texture represents breaking habits, barriers, old ways that won’t open new doors.
The multiple colors signify taking initiative into your own hands, because support can only do so much.
And when that happens, you find the hidden vulnerability as specks of gold, the golden colors softly brushed. You find hidden glittering specks lay beneath you.
And finally, you learn the black cannot completely leave you. But it’s finding the tools in learning how to cope, manage, and take control of it rather it taking control of you.’
